Massachusetts
The history of Massachusetts and its breweries date back to the 17th century. In 2012, 72 Massachusetts brewery establishments existed, including breweries, brewpubs, importers, and other affiliated companies. These businesses employed some 1,100 people directly and more than 25,000 others in related jobs such as wholesaling and retailing. By 2018, more than 130 registered craft brewers were in the state. The brewing companies vary widely in the volume and variety of beer produced, from small nano and microbreweries to massive multinational conglomerate macro breweries. The modern American craft beer renaissance was led by the Boston Beer Company, re-established in 1985 by Jim Koch, and Harpoon Brewery, founded in 1986.
The most popular craft Massachusetts brewery is Tree House Brewing Company.
Another famous craft brewery in the state is Trillium Brewing Company.
